Turmeric has been carefully studied and documented by Ayurveda, a traditional medical system of India going back thousands of years. Curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric and responsible for its golden color, but it is not readily absorbed by the body. Once ingested, most of the curcumin gets quickly metabolized before it can get absorbed. Piperine (the heat in black pepper) helps make curcumin more bio-available as it temporarily slows the liver from removing it from the blood. When eaten with fat (virgin olive or coconut oil or meat drippings) as is done in India, curcumin can be directly absorbed into the bloodstream through the lymphatic system thereby partially bypassing the liver.
Here are just a few reasons Turmeric is a wonderful herb:
*Curcumin is a Natural Anti-Inflammatory Compound *Turmeric Dramatically Increases The Antioxidant Capacity of The Body *Curcumin Boosts Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor, Linked to Improved Brain Function and a Lower Risk of Brain Diseases *Curcumin Leads to Various Improvements That Should Lower Your Risk of Heart Disease *Turmeric Can Help Prevent (And Perhaps Even Treat) Cancer *Curcumin May be Useful in Preventing and Treating Alzheimer’s Disease *Studies Show That Curcumin Has Incredible Benefits Against Depression
